Building Inspector -- City of Rolla, MO

The City of Rolla, Missouri is seeking a full-time Building Inspector for the Community Development Department. The inspector’s work will involve the implementation of the City’s building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and related codes (i.e. zoning). Central to this position is the application of the city-wide building permit program; examining residential and commercial plans for code compliance prior to the issuance of building permits and during construction; participation in inspection activities; and initiating code enforcement matters as they relate to public nuisances, health and safety concerns. The successful candidate must have strong communication skills. The position requires the preparation of documents, reviewing violation complaints, summarization of investigations, the issuance of citations, and serving when needed as a witness in court. The inspector is responsible for working with staff to provide excellent customer service, public information, and conflict resolution as needed.

Building Official -- City of Brentwood, MO

The City of Brentwood is currently recruiting for a Building Official. The Building Official work involves administration of the City’s building, fire, plumbing, electrical and related codes as well as assisting with administration of the City’s zoning ordinance.  Provides plan review for commercial, industrial and residential projects and conducts inspections.  Provides staff support to the Architectural Review Board (ARB).  The Building Official must have graduated from a general or technical high school plus completion of two years college level course work in architecture, civil engineering, or a related field. Have experience reading engineering and architectural plans with respect to building, fire, electrical, mechanical and plumbing codes, plus considerable, progressively responsible construction and regulatory inspection experience. Have International Code Council (ICC) certification, including Plan Examiner, Commercial Inspection and Residential Inspection certifications. The starting salary is dependent on qualifications (DOQ) and experience.  A combination of education and experience will be considered. Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree form an accredited college or university; major course work in engineering, architecture, construction management, business administration, public administration, or related field preferred.

  • Possession of International Code Council certification as a Certified Building Official and valid driver’s license.

  • Master Code Professional or the ability to obtain this designation once hired.
