Engineered Truss Seminar Offered May 15

Engineered Trusses are the subject of a seminar offered by MACE and SLACE on May 15. The instructor is Jason Farrell, a Structural Frame Specialist with TrusJoist.

This seminar will include the following subjects:

  • Floor component design and installation.
  • Exterior decks and balconies.
  • Tall wall design and lateral bracing.
  • Question and answer session.

Sign-in begins at 8:00 a.m. and the seminar runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Participants will receive 3.5 continuing education units. Millman Lumber Company will host the seminar at 3021 Brentwood Boulevard.

Due to space limitations, there is a strict limit of 40 attendees for this seminar. Please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Your registration and payment must be received by May 7. When we have reached capactiy, we will send an email to all members and post the information on this website.
  • After your registration has been received, you will receive a confirmation email from SLACE Treasurer Lara Mormino. Please do not show up if you have not received this confirmation.

The cost is only $10 for current MACE and SLACE members and $45 for non-members. The non-member price includes membership in MACE and SLACE for the rest of 2012.

Kirwood To Host May SLACE Meeting

The May meeting of the St. Louis Association of Code Enforcement will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Kirkwood Community Center, located in Kirkwood Park.

Our “lunch and learn” series continues with a presentation on solar panels. This presentation will explain how solar panels operate and the installation of the panels and related equipment. The speaker will discuss topics of interest for inspectors of new installations and what to look for on existing installations.

The speaker will be Jason Parker (left), owner of Certified Solar Solutions located in St. Charles, MO. Jason is a mechanical and electrical engineer. He has been involved in assisting communities with renewable energy ordinances and lecturing on these subjects. He has twenty years of experience in electrical engineering. Jason is also a NABCEP Certified PV Installer.

VIDEO: IFC & UL Firestop Video

For those of you that attended the Firestop Systems Seminar on 2/23/12 in Frontenac, you heard one of our speakers, Pat Tesche, talk about a youtube.com video of a controlled burn that demonstrates of the importance of using the appropriate firestop system.  If you were unable to attend, it was very informative and we hope to have Pat Tesche (Telgian) and Dan Flynn (Negwer Life Safety) back to teach us more.  Watch the video below.

VIDEO: Tom Alford On "Modern Marvels"

Tom Alford from EnviroPro gave an informative presentation on mold abatement at the November 16 meeting of the St. Louis Association of Code Enforcement. Alford has also presented seminars at the 2010 and 2011 MACA/MACE Educational Conferences. Below is a video of Alford on the History Channel program "Modern Marvels".
